G.V. ANAND - Solution of inverse problems in ocean acoustics by matched field processing

Matched Field Processing (MFP) is a class of techniques used for solving a variety of inverse problems in ocean acoustics.

In this talk, a brief introduction to inverse problems in ocean acoustics and to the principle of MFP will be followed by a detailed description of 3 important MFP techniques.

The techniques will be explained with reference to their application to the problem of localization of acoustic source in the ocean. Two others applications of MFP, viz.geoacoustic charactarization of the ocean bottom, and ocean acoustic tomography, will also be discussed.
