General problem of the group

The "Dependability and Decision Support" Group develops research themes centred on three phases of the product life cycle:

  • The design phase: the scientific problem is to develop strategies and tools for evaluating the operating safety of systems, either by modelling or by carrying out tests, taking into account the interaction and integration of the various hardware and/or software elements for complex systems (embedded systems, communicating systems, mechatronic systems) or the effects of multiple THMC (Thermal, Hydraulic, Mechanical and Chemical) coupling for complex structures.
  • The production or product realisation phase: the objective is to develop strategies for evaluating, optimising and controlling the processes involved. For this purpose, the use and exploitation of data rather than models was favoured, hence the need to develop efficient and robust tools taking into account the complexity of the systems.
  • The product operation phase: the scientific issues here are in line with the issues of guaranteeing and maintaining the performance of complex systems and buildings. The work is oriented towards the development of advanced diagnostic strategies based on models and/or data and prognosis and their integration into complex decision-making schemes for optimised maintenance of industrial systems or buildings.

Based on advanced mathematical formalisms, the work carried out by the OSD team aims to respond to a range of problems arising from the economic and industrial world. However, it remains very transversal in the sense that it is not specific to one field. For example, there are applications in the fields of transport, automobile, health, building and civil engineering.


Organisation of the group

The DDS group is organised around 2 major themes and the research professors who make up the team participate strongly in each of the axes (matrix and collaborative approach):

  • Axis 1: Design and qualification of safe systems
  • Axis 2: Operational performance evaluation models for complex systems
