Abstract:
This project aims to develop a thermo-acoustic heat pump that does not use any refrigerants. This objective is clearly a response to the F-Gas directive (regulation 517/2014/EU) which aims to reduce the use of fluorinated gases with a high Global Warming Potential (GWP) in order to divide CO2 equivalent emissions by five by 2030.
There are currently no such devices on the market and the industrial partners involved are aiming for a first marketable model at the end of this two-year project.
At LARIS, the researchers will be involved in the instrumentation of a first functional prototype of a thermo-acoustic core heat pump. First, a test bench will be designed and built specifically to test the TA modules in this project. We will then carry out experimental measurements and exploit the data to enable an analysis of the performance and operation of this innovative system, and compare it with the performance of a "conventional" thermodynamic compression heat pump.

Two phases are planned:
- Production of two functional prototypes of 1 kWe.
- Production and installation of a pre-series of ten 3 kWe thermo-acoustic heat pumps
This €1M project is supported by the Pays-de-la-Loire Region via the "Call for Collaborative R&D Projects" scheme. Within this framework, LARIS is receiving 148 k€ in funding.
